Department of Economics at Samarth Mahavidyalaya, Lakhani was established in 1964. The department has grown significantly in developing a vibrant academic culture through its faculty representation at both state and national levels.

Historical Perspective:

1) Prof. A.D. Kholkute served as the first head of the department from 1 Aug 1967 to 28 Feb 2005.

2) Dr. Manoj Kumar Bhowate led the department from 1 July 2006 to 9 Jan 2021.

Today, the department continues its legacy under current academic guidance focused on contemporary economic demands.

Aims of the Department:

• To achieve holistic development of students through pedagogy that matches local economic demands.

• To aspire for skill development making students employable in corporate and academic fields.

• To develop critical thinking skills enabling students to be creative in the economics field.
